Ferguson hasn’t stopped, and Ferguson wasn’t the start.
So this is something I’ve wanted to try for a while and thought about a lot after seeing Sarah Horrock’s great reviews and that factual opinion show. I love Hercules mythos a lot, my early art is indicative of my fascination with this guy, and since the Rock is currently turning in a new movie about him. I wanted to do a A Twelve Labors of Hercules film fest. Watch Eleven old Hercules films, then the new one, and make art and a review on each.
The relationship between Herc and cinema is kind of funny. It was a big part of Italian cinema’s Peplum film genre (“swords and sandals”) and sparked off 19 odd movies during the 50 and 60s, mostly a lot b action films that are pretty wonderful. This followed with sporadic interest in pop culture subsequently. They have strange histories and thematically, carry a lot of whats great and problematic about this chauvinistic male archetype.
The first film will be Hercules (1957) The start of it all, I’m posting the review tomorrow. here’s my top scene from the movie (above art) this will mainly be a exercise in trying to get more daily on posting work. and getting a fucking work ethic out of me.
